For many students, economics can seem scary and overwhelming! This module will support you in tackling economics and breaking down challenging concepts for students.
Objectives and Competencies
Knowledge:
- Locate or create a summative assessment.
- Locate or create formative assessments.
- Identify hotspots and common misconceptions such as pacing (breadth v. depth) and topics that are difficult to teach such as supply and demand, inflation v. deflation.
Skills:
- Long term backwards plan from the assessment such as year-long plans, unit plans.
- Short term backwards plan from assessments such as lesson plans.
- Align instruction to Common Core or state standards.
- Incorporate regular literacy practice into instruction.
Mindset:
- Invest students in economics such as how the principles of economics shape our everyday decision making.
- Develop a culturally responsive approach to teaching this course by addressing topics such as economic inequality and access to wealth.
